Tears of Sorrow

Episode One
by Trivial Keithy

Nyssa was alone, all alone.

Adric, dear kind Adric had been killed when the spaceship he was on had crashed into the Earth. Shortly afterwards Tegan had been left behind on Earth when the Doctor had been forced to leave without her.

The Doctor, The Doctor had retreated into himself. He wandered the corridors of the TARDIS aimlessly. Sometimes she suspected he was grieving too much, because he could save his friend any time he wanted but was prevented by a stupid law the Time Lords had made.

The Time Lords, pompous, arrogant and cold. That was what she thought of them. The Doctor was the best of them and how did they treat him? He had been put on trial, twice. Treated as a criminal for no more than caring about the people he met. They didn't do anything about The Master though.

He was totally without concern for anyone but himself. He had stolen her father's mind and body and destroyed a chunk of the Universe. What had the Time Lords done about it? Nothing. They let the evil go on killing and persecute the good and the innocent.

She heard the Doctor calling her. Silently she wiped away the tears with a handkerchief and went to see what he wanted.

Nyssa dragged her heels as she walked through the dull monotonous white corridors of the TARDIS. It was amazing, she thought, how they all looked the same. After a while though she had found herself somehow able to navigate her way through the identical passages to wherever she fancied going to.

The Doctor looked at the readout again still not understanding the strange readout. He was on the verge of reprogramming the old girl when Nyssa entered. Ah Nyssa yes. He left the controls and walked over to her, placed an arm around her shoulder and manouvred her to the bizarre readout. I wonder, what do you make of this? He stood back and let her absorb the information.

This isnt possible, Nyssa answered quickly, the readout is obviously wrong. There cannot be two Moons around the planet Earth She smiled at her friend to enforce her decision.

I know and yet Ive checked the fault locator bay next door and it states that there is no fault in the sensor. The Doctor removed his beige jacket and hung it up on the nearby coat stand. It seems there is a mystery and I suggest we sort it out one way or the other. The newcomer is covered in literally dozens of artificial structures. Would you go and get the space suits while I find us somewhere to land on the duplicate Moon.

Of course Doctor. Nyssa headed to the storage lockers when she was struck with a perculiar thought. Weve been so busy wondering why theres a second moon we havent stopped to ask who or what put it here and why.

Thats what I intend to find out. The Doctor returned to programming the landing co-ordinates as Nyssa left. Who indeed. He mused as he pressed the final button and the TARDIS dematerialised.

Episode Two
by The White Guardian

As Nyssa was on her way to retrieve the space suits, a series of random images jumped through her mind.

The statue of Melkur on her home planet of Traken. The other Doctor, the one with the dark curly hair and the Bohemian wardrobe. Adric's Badge for Mathematical Excellence. Her father's loving smile destroyed, replaced by the Master's coldblooded grin. Tegan's eyes, which often displayed equal parts aggression and bewilderment. Adric, Melkur, father, Doctor, all merged, fused, clicked momentarily in her mind. She was dizzy. She needed to sit down.

"Nyssa?" The Doctor's voice, kind but impatient, called from the console room. "Have you got the spacesuits?"

"Coming, Doctor," she said distantly, steadying herself using the corridor wall. What was happening to her? Perhaps she needed a few hours of induced D-sleep... perhaps the entire city of Castrovalva was a gigantic time trap... perhaps Traken had been obliterated... perhaps Melkur and the Tissue Compression Eliminator and Adric and the Plasmatons were all tools of...

She fell to the floor, head bumping the obscenely white floor.

Moments later she awoke. Stood. Rubbed her eyes. Smiled to herself. Everything was suddenly clear. She left the spacesuits where they were in the storage lockers and paced confidently back to the TARDIS console room, where the Doctor was busy tapping buttons and pulling switches.

"Find them, Nyssa?" he asked, his back to her.

Nyssa spoke, slowly. "You will reprogram the coordinates to take us back in time."

"What?" The Doctor turned, about to say something else, then stopped when he saw the determination on Nyssa's intelligent face. "We will save Adric. He will not be killed in the space freighter crash. No one will die. All will live on. It is what you want. What you've always fought for. Doctor."

"Who are you?" The color of Nyssa's eyes changed from hazel to a deep, powerful orange hue.

"I am everything!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode Three
by Trivial Keithy

The Doctor backed away, slowly. Maybe she, it, wouldn't notice.

"What do you mean by everything, exactly?"

Nyssa stared at the Doctor. "I am all there is, all there was and all there will be. I am, everything."

"That's a paradox, if you're everything, then who am I? Hmm, tell me that."

He casually pressed a few buttons on the console. The Cloister bell began to ring, distracting Nyssa. "What is that?" She turned her to see where the sound was coming from.

The Doctor pressed the dematerialisation button and the TARDIS left the space/time continuum and entered the vortex.

"If I'm right you're powerless now, the vortex is an infinite void. A nothing if you will."

He was quite shocked when a blast of energy was emmited from Nyssa's finger tips, striking his left shoulder.

"I am everything and soon I will be you..." Nyssa's eyes glowed brighter than before before fading back to their normal hazel colour.

"Oh my, why did I do all that? Doctor, are you alright?" She checked his pulses but both were normal. Then she checked the wound, it was bleeding badly. His face started to blur and glow and there was a brief suggestion of blonde curly hair before it stopped and he was back to normal.

"What have I done?" Nyssa's yell ended up as a sob as she cradled his unconscious body.

Later on the Doctor was recovering in the Zen room. It was a strange room full of brightly coloured silk cushions and several lava lamps. Kula Shaker was playing but there was no sign of a record player or speakers.

"It almost happened again Nyssa, I felt it starting but it stopped and reversed itself. I almost died."

"I'm sorry, I didn't exactly have control of myself. It was like I was a puppet, someone else was pulling the strings." Nyssa started to cry again, but the Doctor dabbed her eyes with his handkerchief.

"This is something new Nyssa, something I've never seen before but it's somehow familiar. The future perhaps? That would be bad if I haven't met them yet but they know all about me. Yes, very bad indeed. I..."

Nyssa looked up to see that the Doctor was smiling at her but it wasn't a nice smile, more sinister. Then his eyes started to glow orange. "I am everything..."

Nyssa screamed.

Episode Four
by Iris Wildthyme

The Doctor's hand clutched at Nyssa's arm but she dodged back, stumbling over a cushion and falling on her back. The Doctor sprang up, orange fire glittering in his eyes, an insane grin spread across his usually pleasant features.

"I am Everything!" he howled. Nyssa lept up and bolted for the door. An energy bolt struck the frame just below her head. She slammed the door shut behind her and sprinted down the corridor. Behind her she heard the door crash open and the Doctor's voice, twisted and thickened by the alien force, echoed after her:

"You cannot escape me! I am Everything! I know Everything! I know where you are running " His voice faded behind her as she ran deeper into the TARDIS. Was that true, she wondered? Would he know where she was going? Would he keep pursuing her round and round until she dropped? Perhaps she should just stop and await the inevitable that would be good. No more running. Just wait. Then she would be part of Everything again

She shook herself with a start. She found herself standing frozen in the corridor. Footsteps behind her.

"No!" she cried, and flung herself forward. It was an effort to even move her legs, let alone run.

"Nyssa Nyssa!" The Doctor's voice close behind her. A door to her left. With a sob, she threw herself into it. It burst open and she sprawled onto the floor inside. She kicked back with her foot, slamming the door shut, and forced herself to get up. No lock on the door. She hadn't seen any in the TARDIS which had.

She looked around the room in panic. It was piled high with old bric-a-brac, dusty steel shelving, tea-chests, an elephant's foot umbrella stand The handle of a golf club poked through among the walking sticks and umbrellas. She tugged it free, scattering sticks and umbrellas in its wake. She ducked to the side of the door, raising the club above her head, as the door slowly swung open

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode Five
by Trivial Keithy

Nyssa swung the club at the Doctor's head but without seeing her he reacted to avoid the blow. The instinctive, reactionary upswing however connected and she saw her friend hit the floor with a soft thump. She managed to tie his hands together with a shoelace, just in case what was in him tried anything nasty.

"Oh my head." The Doctor tried to stand up but fell down when he couldn't use his arms to balance. "Stay there. Don't move." Nyssa didn't want to take any chances. "Listen Nyssa, there's something inside of you. It's controlling you, you have to fight it." "Nice try Doctor."

"Listen Nyssa, it's inside of you."

"It was inside of me but then it jumped into you."

"That's not possible. We Time Lords have a highly developed set of mental defences. We can..." He stopped speaking. Somehow he knew Nyssa was telling the truth. "It was inside me. I wonder where it went."

"I don't know Doctor, perhaps someone with a more powerful brain?" Nyssa was grasping at straws here.

"Oh there's very few races with a larger mental capacity than a Time Lord. It's our refractive synapses if I recall old Borusa's anatomy class correctly. If as it seemed it was everything it would take the memory capacity of a TARDIS to store that much information."

The TARDIS lights all dimmed to a dull orange. "Oh dear..." The Doctor was stuck for words.

"The TARDIS is possessed?" Nyssa's face adopted the same shocked expression. The Cloister bell began to toll but was soon replaced by what seemed like a foghorn with bronchial pneumonia. The two friends raced back to the console room. The lights on the mushroom-shaped console were all flashing on and off. The screen shutters were opening and closing while the screen flashed up various images of planets once visited, friends once departed and previous incarnations of the Doctor. "This does not look good Doctor." The landing beep sounded. "Thanks Nyssa, I had noticed. I wonder where we are." The screen went black before the image of the outside world appeared. It showed...

Episode Six

Nyssa's mouth widened in shock. Even the Doctor looked amazed. "No it can't be!" she gasped.

Steel cylindrical silos stretched into the distance. Narrow walkways snaked between them. Some of the silos seemed to have been split open - from inside. There were scraps of metal and shredded plastic cover littering the floor. The Doctor's face was set. He nodded slowly. "The freighter of course." He turned to look at Nyssa. "It's been your mind a lot recently, hasn't it?" She nodded. "This entity must have tapped into it I dread to think why " he whispered. Nyssa shivered. "Is it really the same freighter, Doctor? The one that " her voice trailed off. The Doctor examined the console and nodded slowly. "It is. And from what I can tell, only an hour or so before " He looked up apologetically - " you know."

He flicked a few switches. No response. He hit the console with his fist. Still nothing. He shook his head. "Well, the TARDIS seems powerless. The only thing we can do is go out and find our enemy." Nyssa stood still. "Doctor, can't we stay here? I'm afraid of what will happen " The Doctor came over and gently put an arm around her shoulders. "Nyssa, we can't stay here. This freighter will shortly impact with the Earth. I'm not even sure the TARDIS could survive that. We have to go "

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and nodded. The Doctor activated the door control. They stood outside the TARDIS, looking around to get their bearings. The Doctor pointed. "I think the Bridge is that way " There was a rumble in the distance, then the sound of a blaster firing. And again. "Oh dear seems like there are Cybermen still active. We'd better tread very carefully. Come along "

The pair cautiously picked their way through the silos towards the Bridge

Episode Seven
by Trivial Keithy

The bridge was empty. The viewscreen showed the rapidly expanding image of anchient Earth. "Doctor, where's Adric? I felt sure he would be here. It was so perfect, we could rescue him and things would be better again." "I know Nyssa, I know." The Doctor gave the bridge a final look over before turning to leave. "I think this is all just a dream of sorts. Some kind of mental projection that is affecting both of us. Whatever it was that got inside our heads created this for our benefit."

"But why didn't we get a chance to say goodbye?"

"I'm afraid that could have been me. I'm a sceptic by nature in all of my incarnations so far. Maybe I just felt it was all too good to be true a little too hard." There was a scraping noise behind them and they both turned around. "Adric!" The two time travellers exclaimed together.

"No, but I hope you will be able to talk to me in that context. For a long time I was without purpose, without will and without direction. Now thanks to you I have become something, a being if you will. I hope this form doesn't upset you but it was the most dominant individual in your thoughts and it overwhealmed me."

"You sound like Adric too." Nyssa said.

"I have absorbed the thoughts of both of you two and found direction. In a sense you are both my parents. Now I have your minds I no longer need your bodies. After all if I am you then you are no longer needed."

"What are you saying?" The Doctor looked perplexed.

"It is simple, this mental landscape is not inside of your minds. You are inside of it. You are in my mind. You will live in here forever, as a part of me. I will dissolve your inert bodies before moving on to find new minds to add to me."

"Doctor, we have to escape..."

Episode Eight
by Iris Wildthyme

The Doctor nodded, thinking furiously. "Presently, Nyssa, presently. All this -" and he waved his arms around at the Bridge - " - is quite an achievement. You got all this from our minds?" 'Adric' nodded. "Yes." The Doctor wandered over to a wall panel and peered at it. "Very realistic. Right down to the last button and flashing light." He swung round. "Except for one thing."

"What?"

"Where are the others?" The 'Adric' looked puzzled. "What?"

"Leftentant Scott, Captain Briggs even the Cybermen, come to that. Listen " He cocked his head. They could still hear sporadic firing and the thump of heavy boots. "They were all over this ship, but we didn't see one on our way here. Not even a body. And at this exact moment -" he looked up at the ship's clock on the wall "- Scott should be trying to drag you into the escape pod. I wonder where he is?"

'Adric' backed away slightly. "He isn't necessary " The Doctor advanced on him. "Oh, I think he is don't you agree, Leftenant?" The Doctor closed his eyes in concentration. "Absolutely, Doctor."

Nyssa gasped. A tall, brisk looking man in a green combat suit stood near the entrance to the life pod. He strode towards 'Adric'. "Come along, boy we have to leave. NOW."

'Adric' looked shocked. "NO!" he yelled, and flung an arm at 'Scott'. Orange fire enveloped him and he vanished. He turned back to face the Doctor, his face vivid. The Doctor looked triumphant. "Yes! I thought so you may have tapped into our minds for your own being and this situation, but your own personal manifestations are beyond you not us!"

"NO! I can create whatever I want!" He waved his arm and a troop of Cybermen filled the doorway. Nyssa screamed. The Doctor closed his eyes and concentrated again. They vanished.

"Oh no that won't work. The Cybermen were people too, once not wholly machine. They have their thoughts and desires too, supressed deep beneath their programming. They're not toys to be played with. And neither are we. Destroying us would be as good as destroying yourself." He turned to leave. "Come along, Nyssa. When you want to talk, you'll find us back in the TARDIS."

'Adric' lunged forward and grabbed Nyssa. "You're right, Doctor " he snarled, "I can't create my own "people" but with help, I can." Holding the struggling girl in a vice-like grip, he bent his head forward to touch hers. "With your help - and Nyssa's!"

Nyssa screamed as orange fire surged around them. The Cybermen suddenly reappeared, and advanced menacingly toward the Doctor

Episode Nine
by Trivial Keithy

Nyssa felt the strange orange fire constict around her arms and body holding her immobile. She could barely breathe and was feeling lightheaded. "Doctor, run, save yourself." She passed out with the effort.

The Cybermen seemed more real somehow to the Doctor, not just the blank faced impassionate robots they had made themselves into.

"Doctor, what are these thoughts in my mind?" The Cyberleader asked as it held each side of its head.

"I rather think you've contracted a nasty case of emotions, don't worry they won't harm you. They enhance life and make each day more personal and special." He started to back away.

"My mind is burning with strange things I have a compulsion to, no must fight it. No I must embrace it. Logic error. Cannot, must, will not, shall. Pain I feel pain."

"You need to see a Doctor, luckily I'm here. Now there's only one thing you can do, find out the source of the orange energy that just affected my young friend. Stopping it is the only course of action left open to you."

The Cyberleiutenant pulled out a small handheld device and used it to examine Nyssa's inert body. "Residual energy readings are sufficient to track down the entity."

"Excellent. Take a patrol and find it at once." The Cyberleiutenant and three other Cybermen filed out of the room following the energy trail. After five minutes of walking along a very interesting and unique corridor they re-entered the bridge by the other doorway. "Energy readings are highest in this secion Leader." It scanned the Doctor. "The Doctor is the source of the energy entity."

"Open fire." The Cyberleader commanded. The Cybermen raised their guns and...

Episode Ten

The Doctor threw himself to the floor, the Cyberleiutenant's fire missing him by inches. The Adric creature had somehow regained hold of the situation. Nyssa was still held immobile against the Adric creature, in a haze of strange orange light. Once again, the Doctor concentrated, Lieutenant Briggs appeared in the doorway holding a cybergun. Taking aim at the Cyberleader, she quickly dispatched him followed by his lieutenant. All three promptly disappeared.

Glancing around quickly, the Doctor spied a chair standing by one of the consoles. Grabbing it, he hurled it at the Adric creature. With its concentration momentarily broken, Nyssa was freed from the orange glow. She fell to the floor. Moving quickly, the Doctor grabbed her and dragged her towards the doorway. Running was pointless as this whole domain was not real. However, he needed the comfort of the TARDIS, real or not.

The Adric creature was once again on its feet, a murderous gleam in its eye. The Doctor once again concentrated hard. "Reality", as much as what they were experiencing could be called reality, began to lose coherence. The hard gray walls of the freighter were beginning to warp, change, becoming the smooth roundles of the TARDIS. The bridge console began to change shape as the outline of the hexagonal TARDIS console replaced its blocky structure. The hum of the TARDIS replaced the sounds of the freighter's screaming engines and sporadic gunfire.

Nyssa groaned and opened her eyes to find herself in the familiar surroundings of the TARDIS. The Doctor checked the console frowning at one of the readouts. "The freighter has another minute before it impacts with earth." He announced. A thought suddenly struck him. If the freighter did strike the earth, even in this warped non-reality would that be enough to destroy it and free them from the creatures mind, or would they simply be destroyed with it, and not exist in either reality. He couldn't take chance.

"Nyssa, concentrate!" the Doctor instructed. "Try to think back to the last thing you did before we were transferred into the creature's mind."

Nyssa thought hard. She saw the Doctor in the Zen room grabbing for her. She saw herself turn and run, tearing down the TARDIS corridors in a blind panic. She saw herself dart into a store room... where is the lock, how do I stop the Doctor from... the door began to open, the Doctor explaining about a Time Lords mind and... Nyssa saw herself, she physically saw herself as if reality had been pulled aside like a curtain, Nyssa saw herself and the Doctor both held in the eerie orange glow. The Doctor also saw.

"Concentrate Nyssa" he wispered between gritted teath. Nyssa felt a jolt.

Nyssa's eyed opened Nyssa felt reality leave her Nyssa was in the store room Nyssa felt herself float out from her body Nyssa fell to the floor Was this death? The Doctor fell beside her The freighter disintegrated.

Nyssa felt strong hands lifting her to her feet. They were both in the store room, there was no sign of the orange glow but the look in the Doctor's eyes told her that it was not over. "Is this real?" she asked as the Doctor bolted for the door.

"For the moment" was his shouted reply just before Nyssa followed. Entering the console room, Nyssa saw the Doctor frantically working at the console. "We have to materialize on the freighter." The Doctor explained as he worked. "The real freighter. That's the only way I can trap that creature in it's own reality."

Nyssa was confused. "What do you mean Doctor?"

"Events must be changed so that the version we just experienced in the creatures mind doesn't occur. That way I can disconnect the two realities and trap the creature in his and us in ours."

Nyssa understood immediately. "You mean we can save Adric?"

The Doctor's expression was one of untold pain. "No, we mustn't the timeline will have be changed in some other way." Nyssa's face fell.

The TARDIS materialized in the freighter's hold. The Doctor and Nyssa exited the TARDIS at a run. Gun fire could be heard. They arrived at the bridge in time to see Scott, Briggs and the rest of the Bridge crew entering the escape pod. The Doctor immediately pulled Nyssa out of site.

"They mustn't see us. Not until I've decided what it is I'm going to change."

"Come on Lad" shouted Scott to Adric, the real Adric.

"You go" he replied "Just one more code..." Scott grabbed him and started pulling him towards the pod. Adric appeared to go along meekly. Just as the door of the pod was about to close, Adric suddenly shouted "I've got it!" and ran from the pod. The door closed.

Adric was alone on the freighter. Nyssa was in tears. Her eyes pleading the Doctor. They could see Adric hunched over the console. The image of the infant earth growing on the monitor. It just needed one word. One word and Adric wouldn't die.

The Doctor knew this. The Doctor was paralyzed by this. He couldn't allow himself the luxury, some other way had to be found. He couldn't allow Adric to live. His thoughts were interrupted by a sudden stutter of gun fire. The console blew out as one of the last remaining cybermen fired at it. Adric grabbed a nearby cybergun dropped in the struggle earlier and quickly dispatched the cyberman. The console was beyond repair, the last release code only half complete. The Doctor watched and heard Adric's last words.

"Oh... and now I'll never know if I was right."

The compulsion for justice burned inside the Doctor. He had to rescue Adric, he mustn't rescue Adric. ADRIC MUST DIE!

The image of Earth now filled the view screen as the freighter began to disintegrate...

Episode Eleven
by Steve G Blair

Adric!
The Doctors thoughts were rudely shattered as Nyssa leapt out from their hiding place and ran towards the Alzarian. Adric whirled round at the sound of her voice.
Nyssa? What are you doing here? You should be in the TARDIS!
Nyssa grabbed Adric frantically, tears pouring down her face.
Adric, you must come with us. Quickly.
Adric looked over her shoulder and saw the Doctor standing in the shadows, head bowed.
Whats going on Doctor?
The Doctor stepped forward, and when the light from the viewer screen hit his face, Adric could see that it was ashen.
Doctor? he asked again.
Nyssa started to pull Adric towards the doorway. Never mind whats going on, theres hardly any time. Hurry Doctor!
The roar of the engines was almost deafening now, and the viewer screen was completely filled with the outline of South America.
Nyssa and Adric ran through the doorway. The Doctor was left alone on the Bridge. He stared at the viewer for moment, then calmly walked after his companions.

When he reached the TARDIS, he walked into the console room and closed the doors. Adric and Nyssa were watching the scanner, which showed the cargo hold filling up with thick smoke.
Hurry Doctor, said Adric, Impact is imminent.
The Doctor set the controls and activated the dematerialisation process. The column in the centre of the console began to rise and fall.
Adric and Nyssa watched on the scanner as the freighter plummeted towards the Earths atmosphere.and distintegrated as it entered the atmosphere.
What happened Doctor? asked Nyssa. It should have impacted with the planets surface, shouldnt it? What happened?
You tell me! snarled the Doctor. Nyssa recoiled in shock at the anger in the Doctors voice.
Adric put an arm round her. Doctor! Theres no need to be nasty to Nyssa. She was only asking a question.
I know. And she knows the answer to that question already.
Adric looked at Nyssa with a puzzled expression.
Nyssa spoke, her words tinged with fear.
The timelineIve changed it, havent I?
The Doctor nodded grimly.
Timeline? blurted Adric, What are you talking about Nyssa?
The Doctors gaze was fixed firmly on Nyssa. Explain it to him. If you can.
IIIm sorry.
The Doctor looked away from her and began pressing keys on the console.
Ive given the entity what it wanted, havent I? she asked.
The Doctor did not respond.
Would someone please explain to me what is going on? Adrics tone was insistant. And wheres Tegan?
Nyssa turned to him, and began trying to explain what had happened, but before she could utter more than his name, the column at the centre of the console fell still.
Weve arrived. Stated the Doctor, matter-of-factly.
Adric and Nyssa looked at the scanner, which showed an image of the Earth.
Adric groaned. Not again!
Look again.
Adric looked again, and was astonished to see two moons orbiting the planet, one of which had distinctive structures built on it. Thats odd. Surely Earth only has one natural satellite.
Nyssa suddenly realized what had happened.
Thats the extra moon we saw before.before
Before the TARDIS was invaded by the Everything and taken back to the Freighter, concluded the Doctor.
Adric was beginning to get very agitated. What are you two talking about?
The Doctor looked at his companions.
Weve been used. The Everything has used us to force this timeline into existence, and there may be no way of changing things back again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode Twelve
by Trivial Keithy

Nyssa thought through this revelation. "If this second moon was already there before we discovered the Everything then surely what ever we did is independant of the outcome."
"Oh Nyssa," the Doctor began, "time doesn't work that way. It's not strictly a linear phenomonon. Most life forms percieve it that way but we Time Lords can glimpse the threads that permeate the space-time continuum. That's why we're not supposed to interfere, the results can be quite suprising."
"So we changed history before we actually changed history? Now I really am confused."
"Just do what I do Nyssa, don't dwell on it. We have to figure out how to put things right, back on track as it were."
"But what about Adric? We can keep him out of the loop can't we? If he's inside the TARDIS then surely he's protected from the changes?"
"We'll see Nyssa, I can't make any promises." There are too many variables at stake, billions of lives on Earth to consider and then there is Earth's role in the future history also."
"Earth might not become the Earth I saw?" Adric finally asked.
"No, like I said meddling with time is very tricky. That's why as a rule I don't, except for now and a few special cases."
The TARDIS arrived on the surface of the second moon. "All the answers are here somewhere, come on and get suited up. We have a lot of walking about to do."

Eyes watched the image of the Time Machine arrive for a second time. There would have to be a confrontation, this time the Doctor had served his purpose and must be taken out of the equation lest he disrupt the great purpose...he will have to die!

Episode Thirteen
by Ste_gee

They have arrived. He is here.

The TARDIS sat, all alone, in the centre of a crater. There was something alarmingly normal about the sight of a London Police Box on the surface of the moon. The doors opened inwards, and three space-suited figures emerged The Doctor, followed by Nyssa and Adric. The light in the helmets shone up under their chins, giving their faces an eerie glow.
Nyssas communicator crackled into life, and she could hear the voice of the Doctor.
Right, the first thing we should do is get into that structure over there. He pointed towards the vast metallic building which seemed to be about a mile away. It appeared to be on one level only, with many antennae reaching up into space.
Nyssa and Adric nodded their agreement and they began the slow, gravity-less, walk towards their destination.

As expected, they are approaching.

The Doctor bounced along the surface, almost as if he was enjoying this jaunt. Nyssa knew otherwise. Back in the TARDIS, she had seen an anger in his eyes that she had never seen before. Many times over the last few months, she had seen him control his irritation at Tegans perpetual moaning, and Nyssa had often mediated between them to keep the peace, but now she found herself being the cause of his anger, and she felt as if she had betrayed him.
What could she have done?
Adrics death had been such a shock to her. After her fathers horrific demise, and then watching her world succumb to the forces of entropy, to watch as her friend perished needlessly had been the final straw. When she had leapt forward in the freighter and saved Adric, it had seemed like the right thing to do. But now that she felt that the Doctor had lost his respect for her, at what cost?

We must be on our guard. The Time Lord will attempt to stop us.

Adric was unsettled. Since the Doctor and Nyssa had come back to rescue him from the freighter, he had sensed that something was deeply wrong. Apart from the fact that neither one of them had explained where Tegan was, he was alarmed by the way his friends looked at him. Particularly the Doctor. He seemed to look straight through him. Fair enough, hed said some pretty mean things to the Doctor before theyd been caught up in this Cybermen plot to destroy Earth, but it didnt warrant the way he was being treated now. If the Doctor didnt want him to be here, why come back and rescue him?

He may understand. We can try to explain.

The Doctor was making good progress towards the structure. He stopped for a moment and looked back. Nyssa and Adric were about 300 metres behind him, struggling to keep their balance in the bulky space suits. The Doctor started walking again.
He felt slightly guilty about his outburst at Nyssa in the TARDIS. It had been obvious to him that the girl was suffering from an overload of grief, it was unfair of him to expect her to react any differently. How could she understand the complexities of temporal causality, when sometimes even he was mystified?
The events that were unfolding, though, were deeply disturbing. If the Time Lords knew that he had been instrumental in such a fundamental change in Earths timeline thenthen it did not bear thinking about.

They are close enough. Activate.

As soon as the Doctor felt the tingling sensation across his chest, he knew exactly what was happening.
Adric, Nyssa! he shouted into his communicator. Were being teleported
The TARDIS crew were each bathed in a bright light which intensified sharply, then died away, leaving behind the cold, empty landscape.
The time-travellers appeared in a brightly lit, circular chamber. The ceiling was about thirty feet above them, and had several portals which looked up into space. There were no distinguishing features in the room at all. No visible means of entry or exit.
Adric began unlocking his helmet.
Wait! said the Doctor. He looked at the sensor panel on his right arm.
Its very humid in this chamber. Best if we keep the suits on just now, theyll adjust for the new environment.
Adric let go of the locking mechanism and looked around him. Where are we, Doctor?
Are we inside the structure? asked Nyssa cautiously.
The Doctor nodded. Most likely.
How did we get here? Teleportation? she continued.
Yes. I was foolish to think that they would not have detected us outside.
There was suddenly a loud buzzing sound, and a door, which had not been there before, opened in the wall of the chamber.
The TARDIS crew looked in amazement as a figure walked through the open door.
It stood about seven feet tall, the lizard. Its head was crowned with a horn which protruded from its ridged forehead and curled out to a vicious looking point. The creatures skin was a mottled green, and it had piercingly blue eyes, with no pupils or whites. It wore a long black robe which covered its entire body, apart from claws at the end of its arms.
It walked towrds them, and the three friends backed away.
Do not be afraid. I will not harm you. For an upright lizard, its voice was remarkably deep and clear.
Nyssa was shocked. Doctor, that voice!
The creature spoke again. Yes, Nyssa of Traken. I have spoken to you before.
Youre the Everything!
That is correct.
The Doctor stepped towards the creature. Why have you brought us here? Why did you try to take over my TARDIS?
The creature looked straight at the Doctor, unflinching.
We had to. We had to preserve ourselves.
The Doctor shook his head angrily. No. I will not accept that. Your interference caused us to alter the timeline!
The creature nodded. That is correct. That was our intention.
Adric was becoming increasingly unnerved by this conversation. Whats going on Doctor?
The Doctor continued questioning the creature, ignoring the Alzarian.
Dont you understand the consequences of your actions?
We do. Can you say the same?
The Doctor was startled by this. What do you mean?
The creature stood face to face with the Time Lord.
By allowing this being, he pointed to Adric, to die, you caused a shift in the timeline. Our species died out and never evolved to its full potential. Our technology allowed us to draw you back from the mutated timeline into the correct one, ours. Once here, we used some simple mind control techniques in order to get you to take the TARDIS back to a few moments before the ship crashed into Earth. Removing the boy from the vessel was enough to prevent it from breaking through the atmosphere and causing the disaster which caused our extinction.
Nyssa realised what the creature was saying. Youre dinosaurs!
We are the descendants from those creatures, yes.
The Doctor was furious. Of all the arrogant. You deliberately manipulated the timelines in order to force your own one into prominence!
It was deemed necessary to preserve our species. You have done well, Doctor. We are in your gratitude.
Now just hang on a second.
Adric suddenly grabbed the Doctor and pulled him round.
You LET me DIE?!? he cried.
Now wait Adric, it wasnt like that.
You let me die on that freighter, and didnt even try to save me?
Adric, the TARDIS was damaged. I couldnt
And I suppose now youre going to try and make things right again are you? Well it isnt going to happen, Doctor. You let me die once, and Im not going to let you do it again!!!

Episode Fourteen
by Trivial Keithy

Nyssa grasped the sleeve of Adrics tunic before he could storm out of the brightly lit, circular cold steel room. Please believe the Doctor, we did our very best but the Cybermen really damaged the TARDIS console. There was nothing we could do I swear.

Tears rolled down Adrics face. Its a time machine Nyssa, the Doctor could travel back in time and pluck me out of there. I thought there was no hope but there was, please leave me alone. Adric headed towards the door.

The Doctor started dumbfounded at the back of his companion. Adric. He whispered quietly. Im sorry.

The Everything cocked its head and looked at the shocked Time Lord. Should we pity you or hate you? It looked at Nyssa before coming to a decision. I think I should hate you yes. By your own choices you have damned yourself.

There was no choice. The Doctor breathed quietly. There are things that even I am not permitted to do.

The Everything laughed. Not permitted? Afraid is closer to the mark, yes? You were afraid to save your friend. What sort of cruel being are you? Even the Master is not so cruel. You show interest in his name? I know you, Doctor, like very few can do. I know how you measure your worth and you dont come up to scratch.

Nyssa stood in front of the Doctor. Leave him alone, cant you see how much hes hurting?

I cant say that I do. The Everything looked at Nyssa. He does not cry, he does not grieve, do does nothing but feel self pity and loathing. Where are these emotions you boasted to the Cyberleader about now?

The Doctor mourned Adrics death in his own way as did Tegan and I. Nyssa glared at the Everything.

Oh yes, what did he do? Abandoned Tegan because she was what? Too emotional? Too human? Too much of a reminder of your own cold heart? The Everything glanced over to the returning figure of Adric and it put an arm protectively around his shoulder. This dear boy is far too good for you Doctor. Im sure hed rather be with us than you, youd only try and get rid of him again because you dont want to anger that pathetic collection of dotards you call the High Council.

Yes. Adric agreed. I want to join you. I want to be part of the Everything.

The Everything ruffled Adrics hair. And so you shall be. This was always your destiny. We created this artificial satellite to draw you too us so that your destiny could be fulfilled. You are the one the Everything should be. Curious, honest, appreciative, helpful and kind. Our cousins of Earth, those you label Silurians and Sea Devils, will be your loyal subjects in the new era. Serve them Adric; serve them well. Only you can give them the wisdom and leadership they require to evolve to the next level and join the Everything. Our influence will be complete.

I will do my best. Adric made up his mind.

Please Adric dont listen to it. The Everything is lying to you. We can sort things out. Nyssa pleaded with Adric, she liked, no loved the young man like a brother. Now that you escaped the crash we can explore the Universe once more cant we Doctor?

The Doctor stared at the floor. Nyssa, listen to me.

Nyssa turned around to look at the Doctor, her waterlogged eyed burned with love and anger. Its Adric Doctor, our friend say youll take him with us?

I cant. The Doctor sighed. I wish I could truly but I simply cant.

Then I dont want to travel with you anymore. Nyssa half-shouted half-sobbed. Ill stay here with Adric.

I am ready. Adric said to the large reptilian creature. Let it begin.

Nyssa gasped as Adrics look of naivety changed to bland arrogance. The Everything was Adric. No. Nyssa gasped.

The large reptile man convulsed and collapsed onto the floor. It is too late. It gasped; "The entity will destroy us all." With a shuddering spasm the creature died.

Nyssa, you will travel with the Doctor. Adric/The Everything commanded the Traken girl. Your true place is at his side, it always has been. He needs you and you need him even though neither of you will admit it. Adric/The Everything smiled. This is what was always meant to be Doctor, this vessels destiny was to this point in space and time. You were to one who changed events not us.

Can you prove that? The Doctor asked. I would feel better knowing that.

This is all the proof you need. The Everything said before turning to leave.

Dont turn your back on me Adric. The Doctor snapped. Youre not Adric at all are you? You have destroyed my friends personality completely havent you?

We are Everything you babbling idiot. He is but one tiny part of our existence. We are Legion.

The Doctor backed away slowly, pulling Nyssa with him. Prove it. Adric would bring the TARDIS here so that we can leave.

The Everything waved its hand and the TARDIS appeared nearby. We allow you to leave now that your part of our existence is completed. Go now, you have little time.

The Doctor bounded into the TARDIS, realised that Nyssa was still outside and brought her inside. We have to leave now. He closed the doors.

What about Adric. Nyssa thought about running thought the closing doors but the Doctor moved between her and them.

There is no time Nyssa. The Doctor dematerialised the TARDIS. No time at all. Adric is gone, he was absorbed into the Everything and it doesnt want to let go of his body. We both know what its like to be apart of it. Theres nothing we can do but get clear in time.

What do you mean Doctor? Nyssa stared at the Time Lord suspiciously. Youre planning something arent you?

Yes. The Doctor admitted. Now let me concentrate Nyssa. The Doctors hands were almost a blur as he rapidly reprogrammed it. Hold tight Nyssa, this is going to be a bumpy ride.

Nyssa was catapulted around inside the TARDIS console room as it shook violently. Whats happening? She shouted to the Doctor.

The Doctor glanced up at Nyssa. Im taking the room the Everything was inside and moving it. Im putting it at the intended crash site of the freighter. Its the only way Nyssa.

Adric? Nyssa asked, fresh tears on her face.

He was gone the second it took possession of him. This however will stop the Everything. Without its host body it will be unable to exist. As I said, its the only way.

Nyssa heard the Cloister Bell begin to chime as she fell to the floor once more. Imminent danger? The Everything knows what were planning doesnt it?

Yes. The Doctor sighed. This time however Ive adapted the TARDISs force screen to protect us.

Explosions inside the TARDIS console caused heavy black smoke to pour forth as Nyssa and the Doctor watched the space freighter crash once more into the Earth. Nyssa hugged the Doctor and buried her face in his chest.

There should have been a better way. The Doctor soothed his distraught companion. We did the only thing we could.

The crash site was sea of molten rock but a large slab of cooler rock floated on the red-hot lava. A lone surviving Cyberman was sprawled on the surface; its internal machinery and organic components came out of the damaged sections of its body armour. Its blank eyeholes seemed to glow slightly. We survive. The Everything took stock of its new host body. It was badly damaged but it would do until it could reach a new and permanent host.

What if it survived Doctor? Nyssa asked suddenly. What will it do to us?

Brave heart Nyssa. The Doctor said as he worked the badly damaged console. Lets just get this lot sorted out first before we worry about maybes? Why dont we take some time out first to recover from this ordeal? The Doctor pressed a few more buttons and the view screen came on. Alaska, the year is 1964. What can possibly go wrong here?

The End.
